Swedish Film Institute

The Swedish Film Institute (SFI) was founded in 1963 and plays a leading role in Swedish cinema, supporting the production, promotion and distribution of quality films. Collaborations with Swedish TV companies and Swedish-owned cinemas help to promote Swedish film at home, but representing Swedish film internationally is also a priority. The SFI attends a huge list of festivals, focussing on the big four of Cannes, Berlin, Toronto and Venice.

Österreichisches Filmservice (Filmservice Austria) is part of Filmservice International, a distributor of educational and informative films in 12 European countries and the USA. The company offers services for corporations, organisations and public institutions which include free loan distribution to target groups, TV programming, internet streaming, direct mailing and film festivals. All films are distributed for non-commercial use only.

Docu Zone Austria is an independent Austrian documentary film distributor trying to expose films to a bigger audience using digital technology and special programs. They see themselves as a platform which enables synergies between distributors, cinemas, documentary filmmakers, producers, promoters and everyone else working in this area. Folkets Bio

Folkets Bio is an independent Swedish film production and distribution company based in Stockholm. The company was formed in 1973 to bring both Swedish and international independent films to cinemas. They own theatres in 15 cities across Sweden which are now being upgraded to accommodate new digital screening technology. Diversity is important; Folkets Bio offer a range of national and international features, documentaries, children’s films and short films.

filmladen Filmverleih GmbH is a major player in the Austrian film distribution market. Based in Vienna, the company is the largest distributor of Austrian films and documentaries, and pays special attention to children’s films. Their website (in German) offers online DVD sales as well as digital video download, for which they claim to be pioneers, not just in Austria, but across Europe.

firstchoicefilms is an independent Austrian film distribution company with a unique approach. They believe every film has a market, and refuse to be restricted to the “usual” system of film distribution. As well as acting as agents for theatrical and TV release, they use events like film shows, retrospectives, special interest or club screenings and open air events as additional distribution channels. They are however, quite selective in the films they choose to take.

MFA+ FilmDistribution

MFA+ Filmdistribution is a German film distribution company that was founded in 1981 by Christian Meinke as “endfilm”. The company now distributes independent films to cinemas both nationally and internationally.
