In out first ShoutBox video, Austrian documentary directors Oliver Stangl and Christian Tod talk about their experiences in getting their documentary Fatsy - The Last Cowboy of Austria seen.
The film is about Hans-Joerg ‘Fatsy' Ratzenböck, a man living the American Dream on the outskirts of the upper-Austrian city of Linz. Fatsy is the founder and manager of the Cowboy Museum which holds over 5000 exhibits from the Wild West. The museum, entirely unique in Europe, is only one of the ways that Fatsy lives out his dream of an American way of life - since the late 1950s he has worked as a rock ‘n' roll singer and entertainer. Stangl and Tod's documentary illustrates the world of the last Austrian cowboy on the prairie of Pichling and provides a portrait of the people behind this cult figure.
Fatsy screened at the Linz' Crossing Europe Film Festival in 2007, achieving a special jury mention which congratulated the directors to "an extraordinary documentary, that succeeds in making a person's cosmos accessible merely by exhibiting his surfaces: Fatsy by Oliver Stangl and Christian Tod."
Currently the two directors and producers are working on a new documentary, which focuses on the rise of the alternative music scene in Linz. The movie is inspired on the book Es muss was geben by Andreas Kump and features a soundtrack including bands such as Texta, Attwenger and Fuckhead. Visit Es muss was geben on MySpace.
